Fisheries Engineering
Swimming upstream or downstream, our fisheries engineering will provide a path
Fisheries
We understand fisheries. Our unique blend of hydraulic, structural, and mechanical engineers, combined with our senior fisheries biologist, provide a unique skill set that sets your next project up for success. Our team has decades of experience throughout the Pacific Northwest with such clients as the USACE, NOAA, BPA, USFWS, IDFG, WDFW, ODFW, CTUIR, and many others. We can provide biological input as well as technical engineering for your next fisheries project.
Fish ladders and passage facilities
Fish passage design, including fish ladders, fish traps, fish screens, holding ponds, and similar facilities, require a unique understanding of both fish behavior and the history of fisheries design. While the basic design elements are the same as other types of structures, care must be taken to provide safe, durable, and functional facilities. Common design mistakes include exposed bolts or nuts, contact with dissimilar metals, and inadequate specifications for the fabrication and finish of steel and aluminum. If the elements are not designed properly, it can result in a structure that experiences premature degradation, creates hazards to the fish, and can be difficult to operate and maintain.
Our engineers and biologists have decades of experience, specifically in the design of fish ladders and fish passage facilities. We have designed dozens of upstream and downstream fish passage facilities and are always looking forward to the next opportunity to improve fish passage.
Fish hatcheries
Fish hatcheries combine traditional design elements with specialized biological and operational requirements. We have the hatchery design and construction experience that is crucial to provide a highly functional facility.
With more than 30 years of experience operating and maintaining hatchery facilities, our senior fisheries biologist understands the nuances of hatchery design and operations. Paired with our hydraulic, structural, and mechanical engineers who specialize in the industry, we have the expertise you need for your next hatchery project.
