River Structures Consulting is currently acting as a sub-consultant to Henderson Environmental Design-Build Professionals, assisting with a restoration project on Whychus Creek in Sisters, Oregon.

The Whychus Creek restoration project is focused heavily on the security of residential and commercial property as well as the protection of wildlife and riparian habitat. Whychus Creek’s dynamic shifts in response to both natural and human-caused land changes have threatened structures, leading to a stream channel restoration project commissioned by the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council.

In the fall of 2018, Henderson contracted with River Structures to perform the structural design for new ADA access ramps for the existing bridge over Whychus Creek. The two new cedar boardwalk ramps will be designed to match the existing structure’s style and aesthetics. River Structures will also design two new pedestrian observation bump-outs for the current bridge. The existing bridge abutments are historic, requiring careful planning and regulatory compliance.
